Homesteading

You are here: Home / Homesteading

One of the beautiful things about homesteading is that you do not need to have a ton of land in order to start!

Our Path to Homesteading

We began our venture into homesteading in 2015 with raised bed planters on our concrete patio at our townhome. Our “backyard” was fenced in, but it was only about a 10×10 square foot space. It was not much to look at, but we wanted to grow food. We made the best of the space by purchasing various planters and organic plant starts (baby plants)! Erica may have put the tomato cages in upside down and thrown away our green peppers when they turned purple because she thought they went bad…*insert face palm here*… but it was a start!

At our next home, we built a 12×4 square foot garden bed. The next year, we got chickens. The next year, we doubled our garden. Since moving to our current home, we have tripled our garden, planted more perennials, expanded our poultry flock, and tried our hand at raising meat animals. All along the way, we have followed our interests and desire to take on more responsibility for stewarding our health and the resources God has provided (even if that only meant stewarding a slab of concrete!).

Now we live on eight acres and are expanding our homesteading efforts little by little. Our blog posts (below), monthly newsletters, and social medial accounts are all great ways to follow along with our progress.
